Windows Build is getting failed on remote locations. 0X80040102

Issue : Windows Build is getting failed on remote locations. 0X80040102

Content Location Request for <Package ID> failed. (Code 0x80040102)

When we encountered it there was little to no knowledge or documentation of it despite it being a major issue. With this article, I will be sharing details work around that which help to resolve issue and make smooth life for reported Build issue.

To resolve the issue below step have been taken

The next steps that were taken included:

Below are the key points needed to validate.

Point 1: Package must be present on respective DP

Point 2: Client must able to communicate to respective subnet or network with MP and DP with port 80

Test-NetConnection -ComputerName <MP/DP FQDN> -port 80

http://<MPServerFQDN>/sms_mp/.sms_aut?mplist
http://<MPServerFQDN>/sms_mp/.sms_aut?mpcert

Weburl with mplist will show list of all MP’s for primary site. If there are more than 1 MP, then we will be able to multiple groups of <MP FQDN>

Point 3: Now we are sure that there are no network connection issue to come to solution found that I have did Ipconfig/all based on ip and subnet range I have validate in console that specific build location subnet was missing in Boundary, I have added boundary to the respective Boundary group and Map distribution point to the location build server after all the Build start working as normal.

Happy Learning!!!
